Radiologic Technology-Resume Tip Sheet

As a radiologic technologist (RAD TECH) graduate, you should create a career-specific resume which highlights your required clinical experience and other work experience in a medical setting. (Click Radiologic Technology Resume Template, and use the instructions below to create your resume.)

Instructions for creating a radiologic technology resume:

A. Heading

List your contact information at the top center like this:

TAYLOR MILLER*
Street Address, City, MI 00000
(000) 000-0000       tmillermail@gmail.com
LinkedIn (Hyperlink this phrase to your own LI profile.)

* List your credentials after your name when you have successfully passed the registry exam:   Taylor Miller, R.T.(R)(ARRT) or Taylor Miller, R.T.(R)

B. Professional Qualifications
Begin your resume with a summary of your professional qualifications. To write the bulleted statements in this section, be sure to begin each statement with an action verb or strong adjective and use keywords, requirements, and preferences mentioned in the job posting. (For more information see Begin Your Resume with Professional Qualifications and 185 Action Verbs That Will Make Your Resume Awesome.) Below is an example:

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
   • Skilled in using verbal and written communication to document patient information
and enlist the patient’s cooperation for the procedure
   • Committed to effective coordination of patient care and department flow by working
well with other healthcare team members
   • Complete examinations as required while adapting procedures to the patient’s needs
   • Consistently protect patient privacy (HIPAA) and show consideration for the needs
   of others

C. Education
Place your education information directly after the PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS section. You may include any colleges at which you have completed courses or from which you have obtained a degree. See the example below which shows how to list your degree:

EDUCATION
Baker College                                 City, MI               Expected Graduation 12/0000
Associate of Applied Science                                     Honors: Dean’s List, GPA 0.0
   Radiologic Technology

If you have not yet graduated, write Expected Graduation in front of the date. If you had a relevant major or a specific education track, you can list them below your degree. Other optional information: honors and GPA if 3.5+ if three years or less since graduation.

D. Licenses/Certifications
List licenses or certifications granted by a governing body. Look at requirements listed in the job posting and choose optimum placement on the resume for this information. Below is an example:

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
American Registry of Radiologic                  Anticipated/Pending/Obtained 00/0000
       Technologists (ARRT) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) with AED/CPR                                         Expires 00/0000
        certification, American Heart Association approved

If you have not yet taken the registry examination, write “Anticipated” in front of the date. If you have taken the exam but do not know the results, write "Pending."

E. Clinical Education and Experience
A radiologic technician’s clinical education and experience are important examples of professional experience. List your clinical education and experience first (in reverse chronological order) followed by a WORK EXPERIENCE section if you have other job experience. Use one of the following formats:

Format Option 1:

CLINICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
   Setting                                      Location                    Semester/Hours
Hospital                                     City, MI                       Spring 0000/Hours: 000
   Radiologic Intern
   • Performed imaging to assist with diagnosis for patients admitted to the emergency room
   • Carefully prepared and positioned patients for imaging, following orders exactly
      to obtain accurate images
   • Ensured patient comfort by executing exams with courtesy, patience,
      and compassion

ABC Outpatient Clinic                City, MI                       Spring 0000/Hours: 000
   Radiologic Intern

     and efficient operation
   • Handled diverse caseload, including infants, children, adults, and geriatric patients
   • Completed all tasks and reports and communicated results in a timely manner

Format Option 2:

CLINICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
   Setting                                        Location                             Semester/Hours
Emergency Room                      ABC Hospital                       Spring 0000/Hours: 000
Outpatient Clinic                        ABC Clinic                            Spring 0000/Hours: 000
Medical and Diagnostic Lab      ABC Hospital                        Spring 0000/Hours: 000

                                                                                                             Total Hours: 1200

F. Work Experience
List non-medical work experience with two to three bullets which highlight soft skills. Also, be sure to list related medical experience outside of your clinical education and experience which would be desirable to the employer (e.g., Medical Assistant, CNA) and highlight transferable skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Name of Organization                     City, MI                         00/0000–00/0000
   Job Title

   • Do not simply list job duties; state an accomplishment or a skill you have shown in this job, beginning with an action verb

G. Optional Sections

Affiliations/Volunteer Activities
List professional organizations, student organizations, as well as community affiliations and involvement that would be relevant to your field. See the example below:

AFFILIATIONS/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Member, American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT)   0000
Member, Blood Services Team, American Red Cross                    0000–0000

Depending on the length of your resume and your goals, the AFFILIATIONS/VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE section can simply be a list of your titles and the organizations or can include duties/achievements as in the CLINICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Option 1) section.

Relevant Coursework
This section may be placed after your EDUCATION section and should only mention specific coursework required for or desirable for the position. Highlight courses that may not be part of a typical radiologic technology degree if these courses show important skills for the job. Example: Computerized Tomography Basics and Related Anatomy
