Baker College Title IV Authorization

Types of Authorization

Non-Institutional Charges

Federal student financial aid (including Pell Grant, SEOG, Direct Loans, and PLUS Loans) can only cover institutional charges as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.  This definition includes current year charges for tuition and fees.  This definition does not include other fees such as: books, supplies, background check, immunization tracking, parking fines, graduation fees, housing fees, or any other fees not directly tied to taking a class.  The only way federal student aid funds can be used to pay for non-institutional charges is to obtain your written authorization to pay those charges.

Prior-Year Charges

Federal student financial aid (including Pell Grant, SEOG, Direct Loans, and PLUS Loans) can only cover the current academic year institutional charges as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.  Therefore, in order to pay prior year charges (up to $200) with your current academic year’s financial aid, you must provide written authorization to Baker College.

Providing Consent

Students or parents (plus loan funds only) wishing to authorize the use of Federal student financial aid toward non-institutional charges and/or toward a prior year balance, can do so electronically, by completing the Title IV Authorization Form

You can progress through the authorization process by clicking the next button at the bottom of each page once you have completed the requested information for each page. Make sure to select “Yes” or “No” on each of the authorization pages. On the final page, select the box next to “I agree", electronically sign the form, and click "Submit". A confirmation email will be sent to your Baker College email. If you are a parent wishing to fill out the authorization for the use of plus loan funds toward prior year and/or institutional charges you will still need the name, student number, and Baker College email assigned to your student in order to complete the form. In the case of a parent authorization a confirmation email will be sent to the parent email provided on the form.

Withdrawing Consent

Students or parents (plus loan funds only) wishing to revoke a previous authorization for the use of Federal student financial aid toward non-institutional charges and/or toward a prior year balance, can do so electronically, by completing the Title IV Authorization Form and by selecting “No” to the authorization type for which you are withdrawing consent.
