How do I apply for financial aid?

All students who wish to apply for financial aid (grants, scholarships, loans or work aid) should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can apply online at fafsa.gov, using Baker College's school code (004673). Remember that students must apply for financial aid every year (new applications become available October 1st each year). Always complete the FAFSA as early as possible. The priority deadline to qualify for state aid is May 1st. Note: The deadline has been extended to July 1st for the 2024-2025 school year only.

Steps to complete the FAFSA

  1. Create an FSA ID
    • Every contributor (you, your spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or your parent's spouse) who is required to provide information on the FAFSA form must obtain an FSA ID before accessing and completing their section of the FAFSA application electronically.  Please visit studentaid.gov for more information.
  2. Start the FAFSA form at fafsa.gov
  3. Fill out Student Demographic information
  4. List Baker College (004673) in the School Selection
  5. Answer Dependency Status questions
  6. Fill out Parent Demographic information (dependent students only)
  7. Provide your financial information
  8. Sign and submit your FAFSA form

What happens next?

Baker College will receive electronic notification that you completed your FAFSA. You will also receive a Student Aid Report (SAR)/FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) via email or by mail, which informs you that your application has been processed. You should review your SAR/FSS to confirm the information you entered is accurate. If necessary, you can make corrections online at studentaid.gov.

  • Baker College will review your FAFSA and determine if a financial aid offer can be made or if additional information is needed.
  • If your application is selected for verification the Financial Aid Office will request additional information from you. An email will be sent to your Baker College email directing you to log in to your Student Financial Aid Portal. From the portal you can review and download required documents and upload the completed information securely. Once all necessary documents are received, you will be sent a financial aid offer.
  • If no additional information is required, you will receive a financial aid award offer via your Baker College email. Log in to your Student Financial Aid Portal to review your offer.
  • If the financial aid offer includes a loan(s), the student will need to take action via the financial aid portal to accept, decline or reduce the loan amount. The Financial Aid Office will complete the loan certification process for all accepted loans.
