Instructions for creating a business administration resume:

A. Heading 

List your contact information at the top center like this:

*List your credentials after your name only when you have earned a graduate degree: Blake Walker, MBA

B. Professional Qualifications 

Begin your resume with a summary of your professional qualifications. To write the bulleted statements in this section, be sure to begin each statement with an action verb or strong adjective and use keywords, requirements, and preferences mentioned in the job posting. (For more information see Begin Your Resume with Professional Qualifications and 185 Action Verbs That Will Make Your Resume Awesome.) Below is an example:

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS    

  • Demonstrate versatile skills in planning, organizing, and implementing staff training in company policies and job expectations
  • Strong verbal or written communication skills, including conflict resolution, employee documentation, and creation of training materials 
  • Confident in using problem solving and critical thinking to address any challenge and propose feasible solutions
  • Proficient in keyboarding, word processing, and computer software, such as Lawson, OnBase, and Microsoft Office

C. Education

If you are a new graduate, place EDUCATION directly after your PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS section. You may include any colleges at which you have completed courses or from which you have obtained a degree. See the example below which shows how to list your degree:

Other optional information can be listed: organizations, honors, and GPA if 3.5 +.

D. Work Experience 

List your work experience with three to six bullets which highlight transferable skills. Also, be sure to include related business experience outside of your internship experience which would be desirable to the employer (e.g., Administrative Assistant, Office Coordinator, Accounts Receivable Clerk, Data Entry Clerk, Billing Specialist) Below is the recommended format:

E. Internship Experience

A business administration graduate’s internship experience gives important examples of professional experience. You may list your internship experiences in reverse chronological order as part of your WORK EXPERIENCE section or under a separate heading (INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE). Below is an example:

If you have graduated recently, a RELEVANT COURSEWORK section may be placed after your EDUCATION section to show specific coursework required for or desirable for the job you are targeting if you do not have relevant, industry-specific experience.
