Military tuition assistance benefits that require a voucher include, but are not limited to:
- Navy
- Coast Guard
- Marines
- Air Force
- MyCAA
Vouchers should reflect the current active-duty service member tuition rate. TA is only authorized for tuition charges up to $250 per semester credit hour, not to exceed $4,500.00 per fiscal year (October - September), for both undergraduate and master degree courses. TA does not cover doctorate program costs or fees, such as the technology fee, course fees, or book/supplies. Withdrawals can affect TA funding. For additional information, please reference the Return of Unearned Military Tuition Assistance Policy.
A student is responsible for turning in any vouchers/documents issued by the military branch authorizing payment of tuition to the OneStop Office, upon receipt. Students may also submit these documents by email to vet2vet@baker.edu. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all electronic vouchers/documents are received by the College for each semester he or she is planning to use tuition assistance. Once a voucher is received students can see the anticipated funds as "pending" toward their semester charges on the Student Portal. Students can access the Student Portal on the View Balance or Make a Payment page on MyBaker by selecting Make a Payment.
Students may apply for tuition reimbursement through the Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program. To utilize the reimbursement program through the National Guard, students submit an application online. To register or submit an application visit Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Note: Students must apply no later than 14 days following the start date of a course in order for that course to be considered for MINGSTAP reimbursement. Additionally, students must submit their grades to the Michigan National Guard no later than 60 days after a course ends. MINGSTAP reimburses classes passed with a C or better.
MINGSTAP reimburses tuition charges up to $600 per semester credit hour. MINGSTAP also reimburses fees, such as the technology fee and course fees, but does not reimburse book/supplies charges. The MINGSTAP limit per academic year for undergraduate students is $14,400.00 and for graduate students is $6,000.00. Soldiers and their qualified family members may contact MINGSTAP through email at MINGSTAP@michigan.gov or by visiting the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs for additional information regarding the reimbursement program.
MINGSTAP service members must complete a Michigan National Guard Self Certification and Payment Plan Enrollment Form each semester they register at Baker College. This form is required regardless of the service member's enrollment in the reimbursement program with the Michigan National Guard. Baker College uses the self-certification form to ensure MINGSTAP service members are eligible for the military tuition rate and presented a deferred payment plan option, if needed. Only family members utilizing the MINGSTAP reimbursement program need to complete the Michigan National Guard Self Certification and Payment Plan Enrollment Form each semester they plan to use these benefits. The form is not required for family members not planning to use MINGSTAP reimbursement for a semester.
