Important Notes:

  • A laptop is recommended when attending on-campus classes. Be sure to compare the laptop configuration to the requirement listed above.

  • A Chromebook (Chrome OS), iPad (iOS), and Microsoft Surface RT do not meet the minimum requirements for coursework at Baker College.  These offer limited functionality and do not work with some course technologies. They are not acceptable as the only device for your coursework.  While these devices are convenient and may be utilized for some course functions, they cannot be your primary device.

  • Canvas supports multiple Internet browsers. Please visit the Canvas Supported Browsers webpage for information on the appropriate Canvas web browsers and settings.

  • A web cam, microphone, and speakers are required. Please check the Baker College bookstore for additional details.

A Windows 10 Professional PC is required for select College of Information Technology and Engineering courses. Please check for specific curriculum / course requirements in the "Course Description & Textbook Information" section of your course for additional information.

Individual courses may have additional requirements. Please check for specific curriculum / course requirements in the "Course Description & Textbook Information" section of your course for additional information.

Office 365 for Education is available free of charge to all Baker College students and faculty.  Please visit the Baker College Office 365 article for details.

*Apple Macintosh computers may not be suitable for all courses. If you choose an Apple device, factor in the cost of a license for Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion Pro. (As of this writing VMware currently offers Fusion Player free for personal/student use and may fit your needs - https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/evalcenter?p=fusion-player-personal-13).

Optional Accessories:

  • Many laptops on the market today do not include CD / DVD drives. While some courses do not utilize CD / DVD content, this is a good accessory to have and is strongly recommended.
