1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide students, staff and faculty with guidelines regarding student reinstatement to a course from which they have been withdrawn.
2.0 Definitions
College-initiated Withdrawal (administrative withdrawal) - The withdrawal of a student from a course or courses, by the College, based on predetermined metrics or student behaviors.
Student-initiated Withdrawal - Withdrawal from a course by a student.
3.0 Scope
This policy applies to any Baker College student.
4.0 Policy Statement
Students who withdraw from a course themselves (student-initiated withdrawal), or are withdrawn from a course by the College (college-initiated withdrawal), may be reinstated to that course based on the individual circumstances of the student and the professional judgment of College staff.
If you need to be reinstated into a course, the director of student affairs (DSA) will make the final determination, with or without faculty input.
5.0 Procedures
Reinstatement Due to Incorrect Academic Activity Submission
If it is determined that a student has been dropped from a course due to inaccurate submission of academic activity, the student may be reinstated to the course. Faculty must complete the Academic Activity Change Form to have the student reinstated.
Reinstatement Following Withdrawal
If a student is to be reinstated in a course, the Director of Student Affairs shall take the following steps:
- Email drop@baker.edu with the course(s) to be reinstated.
- Complete the Course Reinstatement Due to Late Academic Activity or Institutional Error form.
- Email faculty member and student alerting them the reinstatement has been completed.
- Update the student's profile to reflect the reinstatement.
6.0 Responsibilities
Director of Student Affairs (DSA)
The DSA of the campus on which the course originates is responsible for determining the appropriateness of the reinstatement request based on the student’s individual circumstances. the DSA will complete the Course Reinstatement Due to Late Academic Activity or Institutional Error form and email the appropriate parties regarding the reinstatement.
Faculty
Faculty are responsible for timely communication to the DSA, whether initiating the request from the student or replying to an inquiry from the DSA. In the event of an error in reporting week one academic activity, the faculty member is responsible for completing the Academic Activity Change Form.
Student
You, as a student, are responsible for requesting your reinstatement to a course from which you have been withdrawn. You may make this request to the course faculty member or the DSA of the campus where the class originates.
