1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to outline the use of Baker College email accounts as the primary channel for official communications with students, ensuring important information is delivered securely and efficiently..

2.0 Definitions

Acceptable Use Policy - The Baker College Information Technology Resources Acceptable Use Policy, which governs appropriate and responsible use of College-provided technology, including email accounts.

College Email Account - The official Baker College email account assigned to each student upon admission. This account serves as the primary channel for receiving academic, administrative, and official College communications.

Official Communications - Messages from Baker College regarding academic requirements, financial obligations, student services, policy updates, or other matters deemed important by the College.

Student - Any individual currently enrolled in a Baker College course or program, regardless of full-time, part-time, or online status.

3.0 Scope

This policy applies to all Baker College students.

4.0 Policy Statement

Email is the primary method of communication at Baker College. Each student is assigned a College-provided email account, and all official communications from the College are delivered to this account. Students are expected to use their College email account in accordance with the Acceptable Use Policy for Baker College Information Technology Resources.

5.0 Procedures

  • A College email account is automatically created for each student upon admission.
  • All official communications from Baker College are sent exclusively to the student’s College email account, regardless of any personal or preferred email addresses.
  • Students are expected to monitor their College email account regularly to remain informed of academic, administrative, and financial matters.
  • Students may set up email forwarding to another account; however, the College is not responsible for communications missed due to errors or issues with forwarded accounts.

6.0 Responsibilities

Baker College

  • Provide each student with a College email account upon admission.
  • Deliver all official communications to the student’s College email account.

Student 

  • Monitor their Baker College email account on a regular basis.
  • Review all messages sent to their College email account in a timely manner.
  • Comply with the Acceptable Use Policy for Baker College Information Technology Resources.
