1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to outline the requirements and procedures for applicants who wish to become guest students at Baker College.

2.0 Definitions

Acadeum Consortium Student - A student enrolled through the Acadeum network, which facilitates credit transfer between participating institutions.

Guest Student - A student taking one or more courses at Baker College without enrolling in a degree program.  This includes students from other institutions as well as individuals seeking personal or professional enrichment.

Home Institution - The college or university where the student is currently pursuing a degree and intends to transfer credits earned at Baker College..

Michigan Uniform Guest Student Application - A student enrolled at a Michigan college or university who submits the MACRAO Michigan Uniform Guest Application to take a course at Baker College.

3.0 Scope

This policy applies to all students who wish to take courses at Baker College as a guest.  It does not apply to students seeking admission into a Baker College degree program.

4.0 Policy Statement

General Admission Requirements

All guest students are required to meet current Baker College admissions and, if applicable, course prerequisite requirements, but are not required to submit official transcripts unless specified below.

Guest Student Types & Requirements

Acadeum Consortium Students

  • No additional Baker College application is required.
  • Prerequisite verification is managed by the student’s home institution.
  • Students are admitted and registered through the Acadeum platform.

Michigan Uniform Guest Students

  • Submit a completed Michigan Uniform Guest Student Application, signed by a college official at the student’s home institution.
  • If this form is provided, no additional transcripts are required.
  • Students are encouraged to confirm with their home institution that credits earned at Baker College will transfer.

Non-Degree Seeking Students (Classes Only or Out-of-State Students)

  • Submit the Baker College Guest Application via the Baker College website.
  • Students without prior college experience should self-certify high school completion.
  • Students with prior college experience may be asked to submit unofficial transcripts to verify prerequisites.
  • This category includes students taking courses for enrichment or intending to transfer credit to a non-Michigan institution.  Students are encouraged to verify with their home institution that Baker College credits will be accepted.

Financial Aid

Guest students are not eligible for federal financial aid or Baker College undergraduate or graduate scholarships scholarships.

5.0 Procedures

Guest students may apply via one of the following methods:

Acadeum Platform

  • For students attending a partner institution in the Acadeum network.
  • Students apply and are approved through the Acadeum portal.
  • Once notification is received by Baker College and course availability is confirmed, the student will be registered by a designated Baker College staff member.
  • Students receive a confirmation email with course access instructions and relevant support contacts.

Michigan Uniform Guest Student Application

  • Preferred method for students attending another Michigan college or university.
  • Application must be completed and signed by an official at the student’s home institution and submitted to adm-processing@baker.edu.
  • Upon receipt, a Baker College staff member will verify course availability and register the student.
  • Students receive registration confirmation and onboarding information via email.

Baker College Guest Application

  • For students not seeking a degree at Baker College, including those taking classes for personal enrichment or to transfer to an institution outside of Michigan.
  • Students apply through the Baker College Guest Application.
  • A Baker College staff member will verify eligibility and register the student based on course availability and prerequisite fulfillment.
  • Students will then receive confirmation and onboarding communication.

6.0 Responsibilities

Applicant

The applicant is responsible for completing the application form and requesting all required documents.

The applicant is responsible for verifying with their college (the “home institution”) that they will accept the credits taken at Baker College as transfer credit. We recommend that students contact their Academic Advisor at the home institution and request information on the transferability of courses.

Enrollment Center

Process and maintain accurate records of all documents received.

Office of Admissions

Review submitted applications and supporting documents to determine admission decisions. Communicate admission decisions to applicants in a timely manner.

Ensure that the guest student completes the required New Student Registration Form and is registered for the course(s) requested.
