Master Promissory Note

Summary

This article includes instructions on how to complete your student loan master promissory note.

Body

All students and parents requesting a Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized or PLUS Loan for the first time are required to complete a Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note).

The Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a legal document that a borrower signs when he/she gets a student loan. The borrower is promising to repay loans and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education; terms and conditions of the loan are included in the MPN.

Students and parents of dependent students who need to complete an MPN will need the following:
  • FSA ID (this is the same ID used to sign your FAFSA)
  • Your personal information (social security and driver’s license number)
  • A valid email address
  • Name, address, and phone number for two references who have known you for 3 or more years.
MPN Instructions:
  • Navigate to https://studentaid.gov
  • Log in using your FSA ID
  • Under 'Loans and Grants' select 'Master Promissory Note (MPN)'
  • Complete the appropriate MPN type
    • Graduate Loan Borrowers: select 'MPN for Graduate/Professional Students' then select the appropriate loan type
  • Click Start
  • Complete and submit the MPN

Upon completion, Baker College will receive the results electronically and the requirements will be satisfied.

Note: When completing the MPN it is critical that you select Baker College and do not select any of the branch campuses listed because all Master Promissory Notes must be processed through the school listed as “Baker College”.
