Sending Messages
HiveConnect allows faculty and staff to communicate with students directly from the platform. You can send emails or texts to one or more students from a student profile or via the action menu on any list of students. Here are examples of the action menu for a list of students, and the Message Student link on a student profile:
Choosing to send a message to a student from either menu will open the message box. You can select "Send E-mail" or "Send Text". Both email and text formats are shown below.
Email messages have no character limit, however, text messages are limited to 320 characters. Either message option allows for hyperlinks in the body of the message, and the email option allows for attachments.
Either message option allows the user to send the same message to multiple students when sending from a list of students. All desired recipients must be selected prior to opening the message box.
When emailing students, the user has the option of inserting one or more merge fields (shown in the email box above). The user can copy and paste the desired merge field into the body of the email. Please note, the entire field must be copied and pasted, including the brackets.
When sending a message to multiple students at once, each student will be blind copied, and will not be able to see other recipients.
Email messages will be delivered to the student's Baker College email address. Responses will be delivered to the staff or faculty user's Baker College email account. Users will be able to see the original sent communication in the Conversations area of their home page (envelope icon in the vertical menu). Further email communications between the user and the student are not captured in HiveConnect.
Text messages will be sent to the students cell phone number on file if the student has not declined to receive text messages from Baker College. If the student has declined to receive text messages, the message will be delivered to the student's Baker email address.
