To qualify for federal student aid, both the student and all financial contributors must provide consent and approval on the FAFSA form. By granting this consent, contributors agree to the following:

Allow their federal tax information to be transferred directly into the FAFSA through a secure data exchange with the IRS.

Permit the use of their federal tax information to access the student's eligibility for federal student aid.

Allow the U.S. Department of Education to share its federal tax information with colleges and state higher education agencies for the purpose of awarding and administering financial aid.
How Will Contributors Be Notified?
Students can invite contributors to complete their portion of the FAFSA by entering the contributor’s name, date of birth, SSN and email address. An email will be sent from Federal Student Aid to each contributor, providing instructions on how to complete their portion of the FAFSA and to give their consent.
Do Non-Tax Filers Need to Provide Consent?
Yes, individuals who did not file taxes must still provide consent.
What If a Contributor Does Not Provide Consent?
All contributors must provide consent. If any contributor does not provide their consent and signature on the FAFSA form, the student will be ineligible for federal student aid.
