Searching Brandfolder

Searching Brandfolder

Searching is a core mechanism of Brandfolder. All assets have been tagged with keywords so users have the ability to search exactly what they are looking for. Be advised, keyword tagging is an ongoing process and results may vary. Check back for continual keyword updates.

Using the Search Bar

  • Within the search bar, type in the keyword or phrase of what you're looking for. As you type, you may see suggestions or autocomplete options based on what you've entered.
  • After typing your query, you can usually press the "Enter" key on your keyboard or tap on the search button within the search bar to initiate the search.
  • Brandfolder will then display a list of search results relevant to your query.
  • If you didn't find what you were looking for, you can refine your search query by using synonyms, adding more keywords, and/or using advanced search options if available.

Narrowing Your Search

Within the search bar, there are four different options to help narrow down your search. The options essentially go from wide to narrow.

  • Any of these terms
  • All of these terms
  • Contains this phrase
  • Exactly this phrase

Using Advanced Filters

Advanced filters allow users to specify criteria such as venues, dates and/or other specific attributes related to the content you are searching for. This helps in refining search results to match the user's exact requirements, saving time and effort.

Access filters by clicking the "Filters" button to the left of the search bar.

  • Prioritized custom fields - These will enable you to select multiple values for a prioritized custom field key. Prioritized custom fields will appear at the top of the advanced filter drawer. Be advised, creating and updating Custom Fields is a work in progress; check back throughout the year for updates.
  • Asset Status - Filter down to unapproved, approved, draft (i.e. not yet published), and expired assets from a drop-down menu.
  • Custom fields - Select from a drop-down of all custom field keys. The value field then automatically updates to only values for the selected key.
  • File types - Brandfolder will surface your most common file types in the filter list. You can search across all file types in your Brandfolder. Searching a particular file type will add that file type to the options displayed above the search box.
  • Tags - You can search across all tags in your Brandfolder. Searching a particular tag will add that tag to the options displayed above the search box.
  • Upload date - Filter to assets that have been uploaded in the last 24 hours or last week. Be advised, historical photos were updated when Brandfolder was implemented and will not match the date the photos were originally taken.
  • Orientation - Filter by your assets' image orientation. Brandfolder supports Horizontal, Vertical, Square, and Panoramic orientation types.

Pins

Pins are saved searches and provide users with a convenient way to bookmark and access important assets. There are "Featured Pins" and "Non-Featured Pins". Featured Pins are displayed more prominently, located directly under the "Sections" buttons. Non-Featured Pins are displayed in the regular pinned assets section of the Brandfolder interface.

Searching Tips

To make the most out of Brandfolder, it's important to filter your searches effectively.

Use ‘Sections’ to narrow down where your asset(s) might be. Now using one or two keywords, try a simple search. If you don't find what you're looking for try using a synonym.

You can also get more specific with your search using Advanced Filters. Or, if you see something you like, click on it to open the preview window closer. From there, you can select the tags attached to it to find similar things.

Pro Tip - Work top-down as you search for assets. For instance, if you're looking for a faculty member's headshot, be sure that either "All" or "Headshots" are highlighted in the Section area. Headshots will not appear under the "Images" Section. From there, you may sort further by selecting a campus location from the "Campuses" label on the left.
