Baker College provides virtual private network (VPN) access for approved users working outside the Baker College network. VPN creates a secure connection that can provide access to internal resources, such as network drives and other protected information.
These instructions use the current Cisco Secure Client name. On a computer with an older installation, the application may appear as Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
Before connecting:
- Your supervisor must submit the VPN account access request.
- After access is approved, you will receive a VPN group assignment. For example, an assigned group may appear as ACT21.
- If Cisco Secure Client is not installed on your Baker computer, submit the VPN software installation request.
- VPN is intended for use outside the Baker College network. It may not connect while your computer is already connected to the Baker College network.
- To help keep your computer updated and secure, connect it directly to the Baker College network on campus or remain connected to VPN for at least one hour every two to three weeks.
After VPN access is approved and Cisco Secure Client is installed, follow the instructions for your operating system.

Open the Start menu and search for Cisco Secure Client.

Open Cisco Secure Client.

If the server field is blank, enter dc1.baker.edu, and then select Connect.

Select your assigned VPN group.

Enter your Baker credentials, and then select OK.

Complete the multifactor authentication prompt using a verification method registered with your Baker account.

Confirm that the Cisco Secure Client icon in the Windows notification area displays a lock. The lock indicates that the VPN connection is active.

Open Launchpad or the Applications folder, and then open Cisco Secure Client. On an older installation, the application may appear as Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

If macOS displays a prompt related to Cisco Secure Client, follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

If the server field is blank, enter dc1.baker.edu, and then select Connect.

Select your assigned VPN group.

Enter your Baker credentials, and then select OK.

Confirm that the Cisco VPN icon in the macOS menu bar displays a lock. The lock indicates that the VPN connection is active.
